Kings Beach doesn’t just bring an enticing sun-drenched shore to the swimming party... you’ll also have a sparkling saltwater ocean pool nearby AND water fountains to keep the kids entertained. Whether you’re in the mood for a few laps in the ocean pool, or fancy a float in the real deal, Kings Beach has you covered.
Golden Beach, Caloundra
Skip the big waves and say g’day to the sheltered waters of Golden Beach, which you’ll find tucked behind the northern tip of Bribie Island. This protected beauty is an idyllic haven for young kids looking for a gentle paddle, so set aside plenty of time for bucket-loads of fun splashing about in the shallows.
Snorkelling
Coolum (off the beach)
Yep, you heard us right – you can snorkel right off the beach at Coolum! Our top tip? Wait for a clear, calm day before popping on the snorkel and flippers (winter is PEAK snorkel season on the Sunshine Coast). You’ll also want to keep an eye out for the green sea turtles that love to frequent this area.

Snorkelling with a turtle, Coolum, Sunshine Coast
Mudjimba Island
Make all your snorkelling dreams come true with a magical underwater encounter at Mudjimba Island. Local operators like The Pressure Project and Sunreef offer turtle snorkelling experiences out on the reef here, where you can also spot tropical reef fish, rays, and more swimming in the clear blue waters.
Surfing
Noosa Heads

Noosa Heads Main Beach, Noosa
If you’ve got a longboard, or you’re new to the surfing game, you’ll want to check out the options at Noosa. As you paddle through this spectacular World Surfing Reserve, keep an eye out for the peeling right-hand point breaks such as Granite Bay, Tea Tree Bay, and First Point.
Coolum Beach
As the home of surfing legend Julian Wilson, Coolum Beach brings something for everyone looking to get out on the water. Beginners can grab a lesson or two with the Coolum Surf School, while longboarders and more advanced surfers will find plenty to like offshore.
Alexandra Headland
Locally known as ‘Alex’, Alexandra Headland is the ideal spot to challenge yourself a little while still enjoying a great time on the waves. You’ll also find plenty of vantage points along the hill to check out the surfing action.
Moffat Beach

Surfing at Moffat Beach, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast
You might know Moffat Beach as the host of the beloved Pa and Ma Bendall Surfing Classic! This iconic Caloundra spot features a long, rolling right-hand point break which runs over a rock shelf – making it a preference for longboarders and more advanced surfers.
Sunshine Beach
If you’re ready to dial things up a notch and know how to handle yourself on the waves, bring the board over to Sunshine Beach. Here, you’ll find some powerful beach breaks to tackle – thanks to the beach’s exposure to open ocean swells.
Maroochydore Beach
Chasing a more relaxed moment on the waves? Maroochydore Beach might be a good fit. You’ll have access to a river-mouth break here and quieter conditions compared to some other more popular Sunshine Coast locations.
Mudjimba Beach

Surfing at Mudjimba Beach, Sunshine Coast
Take yourself and your board over to Mudjimba Beach for a healthy dose of consistent surf. For some more challenging, heavier waves, Mudjimba Island is also an option – noting there’s a decent ocean paddle to get out there.
Sailing
Lake Cootharaba (Boreen Point)
While you’ll probably recognise Lake Cootharaba for its healthy population of local kangaroos which gather in the shallows at dawn, this gorgeous spot is also well known for its prime sailing conditions. Featuring shallow waters and plenty of space to enjoy some serious fun, this Noosa River beauty is a must-visit.
Lake Weyba
Situated just a 15 minute-drive from Noosa Heads, the steady breezes pushing across the shallow water of Lake Weyba form ideal conditions to enjoy some windsurfing, wing foiling and kitesurfing action.
Caloundra

Sailing on Pumicestone Passage, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast
Once you’ve explored the Sunshine Coast’s lakes, don’t miss the chance to check out what our coastline has to offer. For beginners chasing a more sheltered experience, Golden Beach is a must-do!
Mooloolaba Harbour & Mooloolah River

Sailing in Mooloolah River, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast
While not technically a beach, you’ll want to add Mooloolaba Harbour and the Mooloolah River to your list. The Harbour itself is an all-weather port and provides easy access to the calm waters of the Mooloolah River, so it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re looking for an easy-going cruise.
