When the holidays grace us with time and opportunity, and the little ones are ready for adventure, sometimes planning a fun itinerary can be tricky if you don’t know where to start! So we’ve put together the perfect day trip for your next visit to Nambour and surrounds including the best places to explore, play and experience for the whole family.
The Big Pineapple
A Sunshine Coast icon, the Big Pineapple is located at the gateway to Nambour and is the #1 place to start your family day out. Originally opened in 1971 as part of the Sunshine Plantation by Bill and Lyn Taylor, this farm was transformed into one of Australia’s first agricultural tourist attractions, showcasing tropical produce.
At the height of its popularity, the Big Pineapple even hosted British royalty: then-Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, stopped by for a visit on their tour of Australia.
The Big Pineapple, Woombye
Just down the road, you'll want to test your skills on the high ropes and ziplines amongst the lush subtropical rainforest at The TreeTop Challenge. Suitable for ages 8 and up, this is an awesome way to instill confidence and self-esteem (not to mention a great workout!).

If you have the little ones with you, bring them over to Wildlife HQ for some fun & furry learning. Kids under 3 are free! Visit your favourite native and exotic animals or book an up-close encounter. Walk through the stunning rainforest, meet the meerkats, see the red pandas and watch the koalas relaxing in the trees. This is a great way to spend the morning with the family.

Grounded @ Woombye
There’s no doubt if you have spent a morning at the Big Pineapple, Wildlife HQ Zoo, or the TreeTop Challenge, you'll have worked up an appetite! Fortunately, the bustling town of Woombye (just 5-minutes drive away) has got you covered.
We suggest popping into Grounded @ Woombye for an array of tasty delights. With everything from delicious pastries, cooling pineapple mint crush smoothies, and Japanese savory pancakes on offer, this is the ideal spot to unwind after hours of adventure with the kids.
Nambour’s Parklands
If you're heading in toward the heart of Nambour and looking for a picnic lunch spot, there’s no better place than Gary Evans Park. This is a stunning location brimming with beautiful greenery, lush subtropical flora, a gorgeous creek walk, and plenty of room to stretch your legs.
Nambour waterfalls
A short distance from the central hub, hidden amongst the trees, you'll hear the sound of trickling water. Cilento Park is host to a secret waterfall, a babbling waterhole, and a magical bushwalking trail that the kids will enjoy. Pack an early picnic dinner and set up on the grass, or fire up the BBQ. On a warm summer afternoon, the waterhole is the ideal spot to cool off and unwind.
