If you’re visiting Kawana for the first time, make sure you start your day at Point Cartwright.
Located at the very northern tip of Kawana Beach - and home to Point Cartwright Lighthouse - the popular surfing break offers spectacular views from Mount Coolum in the north to Kawana Beach in the south.
If you’re visiting from July to November, you might even spot migratory whales making their annual journey along the coastline.

At the base of Point Cartwright is the Mooloolah River mouth and La Balsa Park, which offers ample barbecue and playground facilities for families.
From there drive or walk down the coastal track, making sure to check out the more secluded beach accesses along the way.
If you’re visiting the region from mid-January to late March, you may even be lucky enough to spot turtle hatchlings emerge from the sand and make a mad dash to the sea.

And at the southern end of Kawana Beach is Currimundi Lake.
Loved by families for its calm waters and picnic spots, Currimundi Lake has beautiful parks and walkways to explore.

If you’re travelling with little kids, make sure to stop in to Jessica Park on the Nicklin Way. With an interactive playground, half-basketball court, undercover tables and barbecue facilities, it’s got all you need for a fun day out with the family.

Once you’ve explored the coastline, there’s plenty of family-friendly activities on offer in and around Kawana.
And topping the list is The Big Boing.
The adrenalin-inducing indoor playground is home to 70 interconnecting trampolines, providing kids (and their more adventurous parents) with the perfect opportunity to test their gymnastics skills.

But if that sounds a bit stomach-churning, pop around the corner to LaserZone Sunshine Coast Warana where you can immerse yourself in virtual reality and experience what it really feels like to be inside a video game.
Or why not head to Rockit Climbing Gym, just pick your course and climb your way up the wall.
But if you’re in holiday mode and all of the above sounds a tad high-energy, why not slip you shoes off and take to the green at Club Kawana.

Each Sunday the club offers Barefoot Bowls (and did we mention they also serve great food?).
Lastly Venue 114, previously known as Lake Kawana Community Centre, holds regular events for all the family.
Events on offer include live music and festivals.
Where to eat
One of the best parts of travelling is sampling the local produce, and Kawana Waters Farmers Market is the perfect place to start.
The market, held every Saturday morning off Sportmans Parade, offers freshly caught seafood, baked bread and local cheeses.
There’s even grab’n’go options for breakfast and coffee on the go.
If you’re after something a little more substantial, head to Kawana Waters Hotel.
Situated on the Mooloolah River with views out over the marina, the family-friendly venue is open for lunch and dinner seven-days a week.

New on the dining scene is Wildflower Restaurant and Bar.
Located in the foyer of the Mercure Sunshine Coast Kawana Waters, the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
When visiting, make sure to try the Mooloolaba prawn and pork belly gnocchi.
Where to stay
There are a number of new hotels setting up residence in Kawana, and central to all the action is Aquarius Kawana of Direct Hotels and Apartments.
Aquarius opened its doors in August 2018, offering short and long-term accommodation with sweeping views over the Kawana waterways.
Situated within walking distance of Kawana’s hospital precinct, the hotel is the perfect location for both corporate and leisure guests and boasts brand new facilities, including an outdoor pool and entertainment area with barbecues.
